Northern Offshore plays key role at IADC North Sea Safety Awards event
The IADC North Sea Chapter (NSC) held its annual dinner and safety awards ceremony on 14 May at the Mercure Ardoe Hotel in Aberdeen. A total of 360 drilling contractor members, associate members and their guests attended.
The awards were presented by Northern Offshore’s John Monks, who is also IADC’s North Sea Chapter Chairman, and guest speaker James McCallum of Senergy. IADC offshore division vice president, Steve Gangelhoff, Northern Offshore’s Sr. Vice President - Marketing, spoke on behalf of the IADC, discussing both changes in the industry’s safety culture and the fundamentals that will continue to drive its future HSE efforts.
John, also offered remarks: “This year IADC marks its 70th anniversary, and I feel particularly honored to have been chosen to chair the North Sea Chapter in this milestone year. Many fine examples of safety and environmental success have been considered for tonight’s awards, and our members should take pride in the commitment being shown by their employees.
“Across our industry, safety statistics reveal that this year sees that, for the 10th year in succession, the three-year rolling average of injury rates for major and over-three-day injuries is downward, and of that we should be very proud.”
He continued, “Any injury however, is an injury too many, and we all need to raise the bar further.”
“The offshore employers need to address hydrocarbon releases with the same attitude as they are doing safety,” John added.
